New North West Bay River Trail section opens
Kingborough Council has finished another section of the North West Bay River Trail, this time at the water end, stretching from Miandetta Drive to the Channel Highway.
The 3 km rock, gravel and grass track has 2 river crossings and 1 ford crossing that’s only passable when water levels are low.
The new section is the latest piece in the puzzle for building a multi-user trail alongside the river that will eventually extend from Longley to Margate. You can check out the council’s trails at www.kingborough.tas.gov.au/recreation-facilities/tracks-trails/

Kanamaluka/Tamar estuary plan out
Local and state government have released a plan for the Kanamaluka/Tamar estuary that focuses on improving path connections.
The community consultation identified the key gaps in the network:
- a pedestrian/cycling bridge over the Tamar River
- under the West Tamar Highway Bridge and over Kings Bridge, connecting Ritchies Mill to the western foreshore
- the new Riverbend Park trail to Lindsay Street and the Inveresk Trail
- Alexander Walk carpark to Lower Charles Street and the Esplanade Trail.
All levels of government will now look for funding opportunities to deliver the master plan.
Humphreys Rivulet path on agenda
Glenorchy Council has settled on its future priority projects and a shared path alongside Humphreys Rivulet has made the list.
A rivulet path would provide safe access between Tolosa Park and the Intercity Cycleway and town centre, connecting schools and residential areas to enable more people to ride.
The council is seeking $250,000 to fund a feasibility study that would produce detailed designs of a path route, flood mitigation and cost of construction, which is currently estimated at $17.5 million.
