Informal tracks and sections of trail near Yarra Bend Road and Fairlea Park will be closed off until the middle of the year due to preparatory works for the Eastern Freeway upgrade.
The Main Yarra Trail will remain open.
The tracks are mainly used by walkers; however, mountain bike riders also use them from time to time. The River Circuit Trail between Yarra Bend Road and the Yarra River will close with pedestrian detours in place.
Signage, traffic management and detours will be in place to guide pedestrians and vehicles around the area during the closure.
Contractors on the Eastern Freeway project will be installing underground cable through the area along the freeway between the Merri Creek and Yarra Boulevard to provide power for new traffic management technology for the upgraded road.
These works include vegetation removal, earthworks, trenching and underground boring. Temporary fencing will be installed around work areas.
Works will be completed in working hours between 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday and between 7am to 3pm on Saturdays. There will be instances where works will need to be carried out overnight between 7pm to 7am, Monday to Friday.
Access will be maintained to the Grey Headed Flying Fox Habitat and the heritage Gate Pillar near Yarra Bend Road will be protected.
