Tram upgrade to close Bourke and Spencer

Traffic in central Melbourne will be significantly disrupted from the evening of Sunday 15 February when the intersection of Bourke and Spencer streets is closed for 10 days for tram track replacement.

Works will be underway 24 hours a day from 9pm Sunday 15 February to 5am Thursday 26 February 2026.

In this period crews will reconstruct tracks and replace poles and wiring.

During this time the intersection will be closed, with Bourke Street closed between King Street and Spencer Street, and Spencer Street closed between Little Collins and Little Bourke streets.

Little Bourke and Little Collins streets will remain open to all east–west traffic.

Bike routes on Collins, La Trobe and Little Lonsdale will remain available.

Motor vehicle traffic is being directed to use King Street northbound, Wurundjeri Way southbound and Dudley Street east–west.

Footpaths remain open but there will be changes to the tram services on routes 86 and 96.
