The Smithfield Mountain Bike Park trail network is set to expand to 85 kilometres, transforming the region into a premier mountain biking destination.
The Smithfield Mountain Bike Park Trail Network Expansion Project will extend the existing 30-kilometre trail network and enhance trailhead facilities, shuttle road access, signage and the skills park.
The expanded park will feature a mix of beginner-friendly green trails, intermediate blue trails and more challenging black trails.
The network will include a wider range of trail types (adventure, airflow, downhill, flow and gravity) to cater to riders of all skill levels and preferences.
Additionally, the jump precinct in the Bowhunters area will be expanded, catering to riders of all levels and giving easy access from the McGregor Road trailhead.
Four new shuttle drop-off points will improve access via existing service roads.
The network has been designed to be able to support competitive events, while keeping other trails open for public use.
The plans have a strong focus on environmental protection, preserving Smithfield's unique rainforest landscape.
The $15.5 million project will be delivered by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service and is funded by the state government.
The draft plans for the project can be viewed
here and are now available for public comment.
Community feedback will shape the trail network master plan, to be delivered in 2026 with planning approvals in place by 2027.
Construction is planned to begin in 2027, using a staged approach to keep the network usable during works. Full completion is slated for late 2028.
