Tassie’s own SWAG Family is headlining this year’s Bike Week on Sunday 1 March, which also boasts a free social ride on every day of the week.
Join the Hughes family at the Stanley Burbury Theatre between 4.30 pm and 6 pm to hear how a family of five navigated the world on bicycles for close to two years.
Tickets are still available at: www.eventbrite.com.au/e/swag-family-world-tour-tickets-1981818108311
Kunanyi Challenge and tweeds
Sunday 1 March will also see the Hobart Wheelers roll out the Kunanyi Challenge, where riders pit themselves against the clock to claim the State Hill Climb Title. Riders must have an AusCycle licence and register before 6 pm on Thursday 26 February.
The Tamar Bicycle Users Group (TBUG) will also be running the annual Tweed Ride on Sunday 1 March, with riders encouraged to dress up themselves and their bikes with ‘ye olden days’ attire.
Eudaimonia rides and events
Eudaimonia Cycling Tours have come on board again this year with free participation in its weekly bunch rides and a special Queers and Gears ride along the Pipeline Track in Fern Tree on the second Sunday.
Launceston tries summer Ride2Work
Launceston Council and TBUG are putting on Ride2Work Day coffees and muffins at Civic Square on Monday 2 March, for those summer riders who may still be hibernating in October when the national day is held.
Free social rides
There are seven free ride choices in Launceston and eight in Hobart with a variety of destinations and difficulty levels.
Some of the one-off rides especially curated for Bike Week include the History ride through Carr Villa cemetary in Launceston, the ride to the Mt Pleasant Observatory and Grote Reber Museum in Cambridge and Ride the Night in Launceston where riders bling themselves and their bikes.
Finishing the week are the International Womens Day ride in Launceston and the mighty Eastern Shore Loop, if you are not already too tired!
