Ditch the car for a bike ride through Hobart

This fortnight’s rides include several which show people how they can ride through Hobart’s city centre if they are thinking about avoiding high petrol costs for cheap cycling. And in Launceston it’s the last of the Launceston trail rides for the season, which are only run during daylight savings.

Sunday 29 March – Burnie–Wynyard

Meet ride leader Steve at Burnie Park carpark, ready to ride at 11 am.

There will be two options - the shorter route will be to Wynyard along the coastal pathway there and back.

The longer option (about 45 km) is the pathway to Somerset then onto roads, mainly Seabrook and Mount Hicks, to Gutteridge Gardens for a toilet stop then back to Burnie along the pathway.

Lunch back at Burnie Park, for more information check https://ridewithgps.com/clubs/2014-bicycle-network-tasmania/events

Sunday 29 March –  Exploring our City’s Cycleways

The Exploring our City’s Cycleways ride on Sunday 29 March is perfect timing from ride leader Geoff as more people look to swap expensive car trips for active transport.

Meet him at 9.45 am at the front of 210 Collins Street for the 7.2 km exploration of the more comfortable routes through the city centre to join with the Intercity Cycleway and Hobart Rivulet path.

There will be a coffee stop towards the end, please RSVP in case of cancellation via https://ridewithgps.com/events/464055-exploring-our-city-s-cycle-ways.

Saturday 4 April – Cornelian Bay, Domain and on to Collins Street

Another weekend ride that will help people navigate Hobart city centre is being held on Saturday 4 April: Cornelian Bay, Domain and on to Collins Street.

Join ride leader Brian at 9.45 am at the Cornelian Bay top car park to follow the Intercity Cycleway to the Queens Domain to check out the recreational trails and then on to Collins Street for a coffee before returning.

10 April – E-bike Coffee Cruise: Cascade and Beyond

And another ride coming up on 10 April can help people navigate the city from and to the Rivulet path: E-bike Coffee Cruise: Cascade and Beyond.

Join ride leader Di at 9.45 am at the front of the Brooke Street Pier to head though the city to the Rivulet Path where the group will ride as far as the bumpy track and return for coffee in Collins Street.

Please RSVP for the 9 km ride in case of cancellation via https://ridewithgps.com/events/438282-e-bike-coffee-cruise-cascade-and-beyond

12 April – Agrarian Kitchen to Lachlan

The 22 km Agrarian Kitchen to Lachlan return ride on 12 April is a perfect way to work up an appetite before enjoying a tasty lunch.

Join ride leader David at 9.45 am at the front of 11a The Avenue in New Norfolk to ride up Lachlan Road to the Myrtle Falls for morning tea before returning for lunch at the kiosk at the Agrarian Kitchen.

Become a social ride leader

If you would like to be one of our social ride leaders, please email our Rides Coordinator with your contact details and what sort of riding you are interested in and we'll let you know when the next Ride Leader Skills Development Workshop is scheduled.

You don't have to be super fit or into competitive riding, our rides are a mixed bag depending on the interests of our ride leaders. They offer everything from short 1–2 hour rides, with stops along the way, to day-long excursions.

Our ambassador routes have been developed by our social rides coordinator Di with help from other riders. It's another way of helping more people to ride if you don't have the time to run regular social rides.
