Marine Parade pop ups modified
Temporary safety treatments installed along Marine Parade in St Kilda and Elwood during the COVID pop-up infrastructure program are to be modified with new designs and made permanent.

The original designs met with a mixed reception on a route particularly busy with recreational riders.

The new designs are conceptually similar but dispose with or modify some of the original hard infrastructure such as curbing and bollards.

Work will start this month and be completed by the end of June.

The changes are outlined on the map below. In summary Transport Victoria will:

  • Remove kerb separators and bollards on Jacka Boulevard, Marine Parade and adjoining side streets.
  • Install permanent kerb separators on Acland Street.
  • Install a shared left-turn lane and bike lane at Dickens Street and Cavell Street.
  • Install a separated left-turn lane and bike lane at the intersection of Marine Parade and Glen Huntly Road. The bike lane will be positioned to the right of the left-turn lane and include a bike box to give riders a safe head start.
  • Replace temporary yellow line marking with permanent white line marking.
  • Refresh bike symbols and sections of green surface treatment.
Most works will take place during off peak times, Monday to Friday.

Some works will need to be done at night to minimise disruption to traffic. During nightworks, crews will work between 9pm and 5am, Sunday to Thursday.

No works will take place on Friday and Saturday nights, or during major events that use the foreshore area.

During works there will be single lane closures or local detours with traffic management in place to help direct road users.

Bike lanes will be closed for short periods with traffic management in place to help direct bike riders.
