Heathmont connection works underway

The Victorian Department of Transport and Planning has started work on the upgrade to the Canterbury Road and Heathmont Road intersection in Heathmont.

At this stage of the project, riders using the road bridge over the rail line to connect to the Heathmont Rail Trail will not be impacted.

Although this bike link is to be widened as part of the project, that will occur later in the schedule.

Crews will be working Monday to Friday from 7am to 5pm, as well as occasional night works from 8pm to 5am.
There are are currently a number of changes to traffic conditions that local riders should take note of:

  • single lane closure in both directions on Canterbury Road between Mountain View Road and Allens Road, and a reduced 40km/h speed limit
  • no right turns from Canterbury Road into either side of Heathmont Road
  • no right turns at the Dickasons Road intersection, including no right turn into the Canterbury Road Service Road
  • inbound Canterbury Road U-turn lane near Campbell Street will be closed
  • during night works, additional lanes may be closed on Canterbury Road, with one lane of traffic remaining open in each direction.
This traffic management set-up is expected to be in place until mid-2026.

Works are expected to be complete by late 2026.
