Transport Victoria has launched the second wave of the road rules knowledge campaign for food delivery riders.
Launched last November, the social media educational and digital advertising campaign targets delivery riders to improve their awareness of Victorian road rules.
The project was designed with the involvement of delivery riders and is delivered in multiple languages across various platforms used by the targeted audience.
Food delivery riders are now common on urban streets around Australia and play a key role in the economic health of many small food service businesses.
In researching the food delivery rider sector, an important learning was that many of them had barely a clue about local road rules.
This lack of knowledge, and the unfamiliar road environment to the many who had recently arrived in Australia as students, made them vulnerable to mishaps and collisions.
And it increased the risks to regular commuters and recreational riders using the same streets and paths.
This second promotional phase, which concludes this month, coincides with the period that many new students sign on to the delivery platforms.
Transport Victoria has also produced safety advice and videos that riders can refer to for guidance.
Key messages in the campaign include:
- ride on the road, not the footpath
- stop at red lights and stop signs
- pull over if you need to scroll on your phone
- check your e-bike is legal before renting or buying.
