Rail disruptions May 2026
Riders are urged to plan ahead for disruptions on several train lines this month. Bikes are not allowed on board buses unless folded and in a bag the size of a Brompton; coaches have some limited capacity for bikes.
 

Ballarat, Ararat and Maryborough lines

Coaches replace trains on sections of the Maryborough Line from Saturday 25 April to Thursday 21 May.
 
Coaches replace evening trains on the Ballarat Line for the entire journey from Saturday 23 May to Tuesday 26 May.
 
Due to Melton Line Upgrade works, there will be service changes on all three lines from Wednesday 27 May to Friday 29 May. All trains on these three lines will originate and terminate at Bacchus Marsh Station. Replacement buses and shuttle buses will operate (details here), but bikes will not be allowed on these buses. 
 

Belgrave, Lilydale and Glen Waverley lines

All trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

On the Belgrave Line, trains will not stop at Boronia Station from 11.30pm Friday 8 May until spring 2026. A shuttle bus will run between Bayswater, Boronia and Ferntree Gully stations to connect passengers to train services.
 

Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill lines

Coaches replace evening trains on the Bendigo Line for the entire journey from Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Coaches replace trains for part of the journey on all three lines on Saturday 23 May and Sunday 24 May.

Craigieburn Line

All trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

Trains start and end at Southern Cross from 11.55pm Saturday 30 May to last service Sunday 31 May.

Cranbourne and Pakenham lines

Buses replace trains between Parliament and Caulfield from 8.30pm to last service each night, Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Train services start and end at South Yarra from 11.30pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

Buses replace trains between Caulfield and Dandenong from 8.15pm to last service each night, Monday 25 May to Wednesday 27 May.

Frankston Line

Buses replace trains between Parliament and Frankston from 8.30pm to last service each night, Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.
 
Buses replace trains between Moorabbin and Frankston from 8.30 pm Monday 18 May to last service Wednesday 20 May.
 
Trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop from 9 pm Friday 29 May to last service Sunday 31 May.
 

Geelong Line

Coaches replace evening trains on Saturday 23 May.
 
Due to West Tarneit Station works, there will be service changes on the Geelong Line from Tuesday 26 May to Friday 29 May:
 
  • on Tuesday 26 May, coaches replace evening trains from 8.30pm to last service from Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross, and from 9.30pm to last service from Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds
  • from Wednesday 27 May to 9pm Friday 29 May, trains will run between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale Station only. Shuttle buses will operate, but bikes are not allowed on these buses. Travel advice from several key stations can be found here
  • on the evening of Friday 29 May, coaches will replace trains from Wyndham Vale to Southern Cross from 7.30pm to last service. Coaches will also replace trains in the opposite direction, from Southern Cross to Wyndham Vale, from 9.30pm to last service.

Gippsland Line

Coaches replace evening Traralgon and Bairnsdale line trains for the entire journey:

  • from Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May
  • from Sunday 24 May to Wednesday 27 May.

Coaches replace Traralgon and Bairnsdale line trains for part of the journey on Sunday 31 May.

Hurstbridge and Mernda lines

All trains run direct to and from Flinders Street, not via the City Loop, from 9pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

Sandringham Line

Buses replace trains between Parliament and Sandringham from 8.35pm to last service each night, Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Seymour and Shepparton lines

Coaches replace trains on both lines from Monday 27 April to Monday 25 May.
 
Coaches replace evening trains on the Seymour Line for the entire journey from Sunday 31 May to Wednesday 3 June.
 

Stony Point Line

Buses replace trains between Frankston and Stony Point from 10.30pm Thursday 30 April to last service Wednesday 20 May.

Sunbury Line

Trains start and end at Footscray from 8pm to last service each night, Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Sunbury from 11.30pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

Upfield Line

Buses replace trains between North Melbourne and Upfield from 8.30pm Friday 22 May to last service Sunday 24 May.

Buses replace trains between Southern Cross and Upfield from 11.35pm Saturday 30 May to last service Sunday 31 May.

Warrnambool Line

Due to West Tarneit Station works, coahces replace trains for part of the journey from Wednesday 27 May to Friday 29 May. Details can be found here.

Werribee Line

Buses replace trains from Newport to Werribee from 11.50pm to last service each night, Tuesday 19 May to Thursday 21 May.
 

Werribee and Williamstown lines

Trains start and end at Southern Cross Station from 9pm to last service each night, Sunday 17 May to Wednesday 20 May.

Buses replace trains between North Melbourne, Newport and Williamstown from 11.30pm Friday 22 May to 9.30pm Sunday 24 May.

Buses replace trains between North Melbourne, Werribee and Williamstown from 9.30pm to last service Sunday 24 May.

Buses replace trains between North Melbourne, Newport and Williamstown from 8:30 pm Friday 29 May to last service Sunday 31 May.
