Plans for Mickleham’s missing link

Formal planning is underway for the missing section of bike infrastructure along Mickleham Road in the outer suburban north.

In recent years the Stage One upgrade of the road further south and the upgrade of Craigieburn Road to the east both have delivered high quality off-road bike connection through the area.

Now, with Stage 2 of the Mickleham Rod project from  Dellamore Boulevard in Greenvale to Craigieburn Road in Yuroke progressing through detailed planning, the missing link is closer to construction.

Before seeking final planning approval for project delivery, further feedback is being sought from the community.

Mickleham Road was once popular with road riders seeking an alternative to Hume Highway when heading to the northern fringes of the city. But in recent decades, with increasing residential and industrial development in the region, the high volume of fast vehicles have increased risk.

The proposed new link will vastly improve the ability of locals and visitors to get around by bike and foot.

As well as the active transport infrastructure the project will add extra lanes, increasing Mickleham Road to 3 lanes in each direction, and also add traffic lights at the Mickleham Road and Dunhelen Lane and Cookes Road intersections.
