Gosford to Point Clare shared path project begins

The NSW State Government has announced a $41 million funding package to start works on the Gosford waterfront precinct and, crucially, a walking/cycling path.

Gosford, the central hub of the Central Coast just north of Sydney, sits alongside scenic Brisbane Water. However, waterfront infrastructure, including a dedicated active travel corridor, is sorely lacking. Those riding in the region need to risk the busy Dane Drive / Central Coast Highway, or ride along a narrow, busy and poorly maintained waterfront footpath.

Works are now underway to remedy this, with a barge testing the seabed in preparation for a boardwalk linking Gosford to Point Clare as stage one of the major project.

The 4.5m-wide boardwalk is planned to connect Grahame Park in Gosford to Goodaywang Reserve in Point Clare, creating a continuous route for pedestrians and cyclists.

New South Wales Premier Chris Minns said the Gosford waterfront would allow residents and visitors to make the most of this spectacular area for years to come.

Minister for the Central Coast David Harris said Central Coast residents made almost 3,500 submissions about upgrades to the waterfront precinct.

“The results were clear: the majority want to see more places to walk and cycle,” he said. “I am delighted our Government will soon begin work on bringing the community’s vision to life.”
