Northern Trail upgrade underway

Works are underway to complete the upgrade of a section of the Northern Trail in Heidelberg.

The Department of Transport and Planning is reconstructing the old sub-standard track along the railway cutting, making it more usable for riders and pedestrians.

The path will be closed whenever construction activities are present, with signs in place to help guide trail users safely around the work area.

Works include:

  • replacing existing and adding new rail fencing along the length of path
  • installing handrails at steepest section of the path near Darebin Street to improve safety and accessibility
  • widening and replacing the steepest section of the path with concrete to improve access
  • replacing bench seats and removing graffiti along the rock walls to improve amenity.
Works are expected to be completed this month.
