South Australia seeks e-mobility feedback
South Australians are being invited to give feedback on e-bike and e-scooter laws as a major review of the state's rules gets underway.

The state government review is intended to consider how the laws regulating e-bikes, e-scooters and other personal e-mobility devices are working in real-world conditions.

South Australians will be asked for their thoughts on issues including licensing requirements, speed limits and road network access.

Other topics for feedback include minimum rider age requirements, police powers to remove or destroy illegal or misused devices and personal mobility device size and weight restrictions.

Community feedback will help inform the next phase of the review.

E-bikes, although regulated separately from other e-mobility devices, have been included in the review because of community safety concerns around the use of illegal e-bikes.

Currently, private e-scooters and other personal mobility devices are legal for use on footpaths, shared paths, bike paths and many bike lanes and roads in the state.

Riders are required to wear a helmet but do not need a licence.

E-scooters and other personal mobility device riders must not travel at more than 10km/h on footpaths, beaches and shared paths.

E-scooters are permitted on roads where the maximum speed limit is 60km/h but must ride in the bike lane and travel at no more than 25km/h.

All other personal mobility devices are permitted on roads where the maximum speed limit is 50km/h and must travel at no more than 25km/h.

If you live and ride in South Australia, have your say on what is safe and fair at www.yoursay.sa.gov.au/pmd-ebike-rules-review.

The survey is open until 11.59pm, Sunday 16 August.
