Mount Ousley shared path construction begins
Construction of the Mount Ousley Road shared path bridge northwest of Wollongong is set to begin in July.

The bridge will form an active transport link for riders and pedestrians travelling between the University of Wollongong and Wollongong TAFE NSW precincts and the northern suburbs.

It will feature a 4m-wide accessible shared path with a boardwalk for riders and pedestrians and cyclists, stairs with a wheeling channel to accommodate bikes and two seated viewing areas offering resting spots with views towards Djeera / Mount Keira.

The project also includes a raised pedestrian crossing on Dumfries Avenue about 120m west of McMahon Street and four speed cushions on Dumfries Avenue to calm the surrounding traffic, an accessible parking space off the Old Mount Ousley Road cul-de-sac with direct path access, and landscaping and revegetation to help the bridge blend into its surroundings.

Designs for the bridge were refined and updated following a public consultation last year, with the staircase widened to separate two-way movements, dual cyclist wheeling channels added to the staircase and a landing added halfway and at the bottom with pedestrian fencing.

The Mount Ousley Road shared path bridge is part of the significant Mount Ousley interchange project, which involves the construction of an interchange on the M1 Princes Motorway and is now halfway complete.

The bridge is funded by $12 million from the NSW Government.
