Metropolitan Transport Forum endorses Gimme 5 campaign
The Metropolitan Transport Forum has endorsed Bicycle Network's 'Gimme 5' campaign calling for the Victorian Government to dedicate 5% of the transport budget to building the Strategic Cycling Corridors.

The Strategic Cycling Corridors were developed by the state government and form a network of essential routes that connect key destinations across the state. However, most of them have not been built — a situation that must change if the Victorian Government is to meet its target of having 25% of all trips be active by 2030.

The Metropolitan Transport Forum joins almost 30 bicycle user groups, Streets Alive communities and other grassroots organisations in supporting the campaign.

The forum has also announced the first three dates of the transport forums they hold for candidates during state election years:

  • 6.30pm, Wednesday 5 August, Pascoe Vale (Merlynston Hall, Coburg North)
  • 6.30pm, Wednesday 19 August, Melton (Melton Library and Learning Hub)
  • 6.30pm, Wednesday 2 September, Whitehouse and Box Hill (Box Hill Town Hall)
The Metropolitan Transport Forum is a local government interest group for transport in metropolitan Melbourne and has been advocating for more effective, efficient and equitable transport for over 20 years.

The forum has ties to state government agencies and meets monthly to discuss transport topics of current interest, makes submissions to government and conducts research to inform transport policy.

The transport forums noted above will feature local candidates in the November state election to discuss metropolitan transport policy.

There will be a Q&A session with questions from the live audience.

To ensure bike riders' voices are heard, we hope to see as many local riders attending each forum as possible.

You can book tickets on the forum website here. https://mtf.org.au/events/
