Electrical upgrades and bridge maintenance will impact traffic along Queens Bridge Street, Southbank, during August.
There will be closures of the route for bike riders as the project moves through several stages.
The work involves repairing the bridge expansion joints, resurfacing the tram reserve and replacing poles along Queens Bridge Street, and will move overhead tram power cables underground from 1-29 Queens Bridge Street.
Early works on the southbound lanes of Queens Bridge Street, between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank, will initially be at night from 8pm to 5am, Sunday 2 August to Thursday 6 August, followed by day works from 7am to 5pm, Friday 14 August.
Crews moving along as works progress will be removing redundant cable during night works and trenching to install conduits for new cables during day works.
There will be traffic lane, bike lane and car parking closures as required along the street.
Main works between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank, will be underway 24 hours a day from 8pm Friday 14 August to 5am Monday 17 August 2026.
Old overhead cables will be removed and placed underground, two pairs of expansion joints will be repaired on the bridge, and the tram reserve along Queens Bridge Street, between Flinders Street and City Road, Southbank, will be re-surfaced.
From 8pm Friday 14 August to 5am Saturday 15 August, Queens Bridge Street will be closed to traffic and bikes for site and traffic management set up.
From 5am Saturday 15 August to 1am Monday 17 August there will be lane closures along Queens Bridge Street between Flinders Street and City Road.
Bike lanes will be closed with detours. Please follow detour signage.
Buses will continue to run along Queens Bridge Street during works. Buses will replace trams on tram route 58.
Crews will continue the clean-up of the worksite for a few weeks after the main works have finished.
Note that from 1am Monday 17 August to 5am Monday 17 August, Queens Bridge Street will be closed to traffic and bikes to remove traffic management treatments in preparation for the road re-opening.
