Tesla releases its first bike, and it sells out in minutes

Tesla has expanded beyond electric vehicles, mobile internet, space exploration, home batteries and robotaxis into a new category: children's balance bikes.

The company says the US$225 balance bike is built for children aged to 5 years and features a lightweight white magnesium frame along with a sliding seat that raises both reach and standover height.

This unique 5-way adjustable seat allows the bike to grow with the child.

The frame carries familiar Tesla branding on the side and the Tesla "T" logo on the front and back. Some assembly is required, and tools are included in the box.

Tesla's product page lists the recommended age range as 2 to 5, and the company is also selling a matching "Kids Pedal Power" T-shirt for $30.

The bike sold out almost immediately after launch, though Tesla hasn't said how large the initial batch was. Tesla's site now lists it as out of stock, with shipping expected in late August.

Specs from the Tesla website

  • Five predetermined seat height levels
  • Minimum leg length: 13.7 in (35 cm)
  • Recommended weight limit: 66.1 lb (30 kg)
  • Maximum weight limit: 77.1 lb (35 kg)
