The Metro Tunnel Project, now closer to completing the new station entrance at Federation Square, will during August be carrying out road, kerb and tram infrastructure works to reinstate Flinders Street.
To complete these works, a full closure of Flinders Street eastbound is required overnight from 8pm to 5am on Tuesday 4 August and Wednesday 5 August 2026.
Then from 9pm Thursday 6 August to 9pm Tuesday 11 August, a full closure of Flinders Street westbound between Russell Street and Swanston Street will be required.
Flinders Street eastbound works
Flinders Street eastbound will be fully closed between Degraves Street and Chapter House Lane overnight to complete road reinstatement works.
Road users travelling north along St Kilda Road can detour via Flinders, Queen and Collins streets.
Road users will not be able to turn right at the Flinders Street intersection during these works.
The pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Fed Square will remain closed.
There will be no impact on tram services during these works.
Flinders Street westbound works
Flinders Street westbound will be fully closed between Russell Street and Swanston Street.
Detours will be in place for road users via Russell, Collins, Queen, Queens Bridge streets and Southbank Boulevard.
Detours will be in place for cyclists via Flinders Lane.
These works are expected to generate low to medium levels of noise.
The existing closure of the pedestrian crossing between St Paul’s Cathedral and Fed Square will remain in place during these works.
