Kanes Bridge over the Yarra at Studley Park in Kew is expected to reopen in September following safety upgrades.
The bridge has been closed since June following concerns about structural integrity.
Following the bridge's closure, detailed investigations and engineering assessments have been completed, and have confirmed that strengthening works are needed before the bridge can safely reopen.
The upcoming works will involve the installation of two supplementary girder beams to strengthen the bridge structure.
The existing longitudinal beam structure will be reinforced using rope access techniques.
Works at the bridge, which connects to Yarra Bend Park, are scheduled to start on 5 August 2026 and finish by mid-September 2026.
Parks Victoria plans to reopen the bridge as soon as possible.
During the closure, there will be no pedestrian or bicycle access across the bridge.
The public has been warned not to access the bridge while it is closed.
Barriers will be in place, and an alternate route is available for public use.
An alternative walking/cycling route to the other side of the bridge is available via Studley Park Road, the Main Yarra Trail past Dights Falls and Deep Rock Road.
