The City of Gold Cost is seeking public feedback on the future of the Oceanway as it explores options to fill in the missing links needed to complete the route.
Once complete, the Oceanway shared path will stretch 36 kilometres along the coastline.
Work is currently underway on the Hedges Avenue safety upgrade, the first step to progressing the Oceanway through Mermaid Beach.
Community insights on the Oceanway project – alongside environmental, engineering, safety and technical assessments – will inform the planning and design of the remaining missing links.
Survey respondents can help identify safety, accessibility and connectivity priorities, and have their say on landscaping, shade and amenities.
Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said: “While two-thirds of the Oceanway is already in place, five key missing links remain at Main Beach, Mermaid Beach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach and Currumbin.
“As the Gold Coast grows towards one million residents by 2041, it’s important we continue planning for better active transport and improved access to our beaches and foreshore.
“Completing the Oceanway would create a continuous route for locals and visitors, delivering environmental and community wellbeing benefits.
“This consultation is about understanding what the community value most and how people want to experience this important coastal asset in the future.
“Whether you support the Oceanway, have concerns, or simply want to share your ideas, we encourage everyone to have their say.”
