The first stage of construction of new tram tracks and tram stops gets underway in the Brunswick Tram Depot precinct next week.
There will be road closures and 24-hour construction works between Friday 21 August and October 2026.
The Upfield Trail will continue to be closed during these works with rider detours via Colebrook street.
Cameron Street will be closed between Prowse Street and Moreland Road from 9am Friday 21 August to 5am Monday 5 October for installing new tracks, including a new terminus track and new tracks for the expanded depot along with upgrading tram signalling and overhead wires.
Sydney Road will be closed between Davies and Mitchell streets for installing tram tracks for a new tram depot northbound exit onto Sydney Road, along with the installation of new overhead wires.
Works start at 9pm Friday 21 August and finish at 5am Friday 4 September.
Detours will be in place for vehicles and bike riders with traffic management and signage.
Later, Moreland Road will be closed between Cameron Street and Sydney Road from 10pm Saturday 12 September to 5am Friday 2 October for the building of a pair of level-access tram stops on Moreland Road between Cameron Street and Sydney Road, along with track and overhead works.
Moreland Road will also be closed between Colebrook Street and Sydney Road from 10pm Saturday 3 October to 5am Sunday 4 October for tram testing.
In Sydney Road there will also be works to modernise street furniture, including bike hoops, parking signs and traffic signalling infrastructure.
On-street parking will be closed within the work areas during each road closure.
Buses will replace trams on routes 6, 19 and 58.
Because of the level of traffic disruption, riders should be alert to unpredictable driver behaviour.
