So far as mountain biking in the Sydney region goes, Hornsby is up there as one of the leading destinations.
Westleigh H2O has been one of the more popular trails in the area, particularly for beginner to intermediate riders. But for the next few months, the legendary trails are closed while major upgrades are undertaken.
The finished network is expected to include around 6km of trails, including flow, freeride, and cross-country. The updated design plans followed community and rider consultation along with environmental studies intended to limit impact on areas of high biodiversity value.
Mayor Warren Waddell, State MP Alister Henskens, and councillors Janelle McIntosh and Nathan Tibury recently attended a site visit to mark the start of major works.
Council says public safety and construction efficiency are the key priorities over the coming months, and are directing riders to Hornsby Mountain Bike Trail and other tracks across ‘the bushland shire’ in the meantime.
Westleigh is expected to reopen in early 2027.
