Works on the Hyde Street Bridge over Stoney Creek in Yarraville will be a minor inconvenience for riders along the Bay Trail West until March next year.
As part of the Western Roads Upgrade, new safety barriers are being installed to the outside edges of the bridge, there will be new paths and safety barriers on the pedestrian and trail approaches approaches, and the bridge will receive new corrosion protection.
Hyde Street is busy at weekends with road riders and riders on the trail.
Riders on the road will be able to continue in the traffic lane during the works.
However riders on the shared path will be required to walk their bikes across the bridge on the footpath during works.
They will be will be separated from traffic by concrete barriers.
There will be signs throughout the site directing riders as well as traffic controllers.
Work will be carried out during the day (Monday to Fridays) between 7am and 6pm and Saturdays, between 7am and 1pm. Occasionally night works may be required. A lane in each direction will be open at all times.
The disruption follows hard on the heels of the recent work in the same area to reline the North Yarra Deviation Sewer.
