Melba Highway landslip works
Works start on Monday to repair two landslips on a section of the Melba Highway in Dixons Creek.

The landslips are about 3 kilometres south of the Healesville–Kinglake Road intersection and there will likely be significant impact on traffic flows, especially later in the project when one lane is closed.

Previous works resulted in dangerous traffic behaviours on detour routes, putting riders at risk; however construction arrangements for this project are expected to be less disruptive.

Work will start on Monday 13 October 2025 and be completed by the end of January 2026.

Crews will be working during the day between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Melbourne Cup weekend will not be affected.

Early works will be underway until Friday 31 October with site set-up, excavation and drainage works. One lane will be closed during work hours for about 100 metres.

Temporary traffic lights and traffic controllers will be on-site to help maintain traffic flow in both directions, with reduced speed limits. Expect 5-minute delays. Longer delays may be experienced during peak hours.

The road will reopen to two lanes outside of working hours.

Major works to repair the two landslips will start from 7am Wednesday 5 November with a 24/7 lane closure in place for 200 metres.

Works will pause during the Christmas and New Year period under changed traffic conditions.

The two landslips are not immediately visible from the road surface, but they have caused major damage to the ground that is supporting the highway.

Works involve:

  • excavating and removing the road pavement
  • building retaining walls
  • reinstating and stabilising the road asphalt layers
  • improving drainage
  • reinstating safety barriers, signs and line marking.
