With A’Beckett Street reopened to traffic after a long-term closure, the final layout of the outbound bike-only stretch of Swanston Street is now in operation.
This new arrangement should make the approach to the RMIT tram stop much more comfortable, with reduced risk of vehicle intrusion across the tram stop, and the banishment of the blight of U-turning vehicles back down Swanston.
The few vehicles that now enter this block north of La Trobe Street will need to exit at Little La Trobe or A’Beckett.
A'Beckett now has a small square at the corner, public seating and bike parking along with a wider footpath.
A'Beckett is the last street around State Library Station to be reopened, after Franklin Street reopened in August. Both streets have been upgraded and Franklin Street is now home to one of the new station's entrances.
The Franklin Street entrance to State Library Station is fully accessible, with lifts and escalators taking passengers to the concourse and platforms.
From there, you’ll be able to catch services on the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines once the Metro Tunnel opens in early December.
State Library Station also connects to Melbourne Central Station via a shared concourse, making it easy to change to City Loop services without having to tap off.
