We’ve organised a last minute winter solstice ride for tonight on kunanyi/Mount Wellington to get into the Dark Mofo spirit.
To come along on the ride meet at the Fern Tree Tavern from 6.30pm, with the ride leaving at 7pm and finishing up around 11pm.
It’s critical you bring bright lights to see your way along the track and a torch for the Tin Cabin. Don’t worry if you are coming on your own, we’ll pair riders up to concentrate light.
We’ll be riding along the Pipeline Track to Tin Cabin and back, with a break at the cabin to light a fire and get out your snacks. Our ride leader, Matt, will bring hot coffee, hot chocolate and tea but please bring your own food.
Tonight’s forecast for the pinnacle is -2 degrees and while it’s warmer below on the track, it will be cold, so bring along warm layers.
If you want any more information give Matt a call on 0419391629.
Table Cape ride
Another ride coming up this weekend, on Sunday 24 June, is the very scenic Table Cape trip.
The 26km route will take in the lookout on Table Cape which gives views of Three Hummock Island, Low Head in George Town and the Asbestos Range and we’ll stop to walk to the Table Cape Lighthouse.
If anyone has problems with the distance or 397km climb then the group can be broken up according to capabilities on the morning.
Riders should meet at the East Wynyard Foreshore car park (east of the tourist park entry), ready to ride at 11am. The ride is being led by Richard, who is offering his home for a BYO lunch after the ride.

MONA coffee cruise
Next week we’re running the Intercity Cycleway Coffee Cruise out to MONA – one of our favourite relaxed riding routes, with tasty cakes and coffee as our reward!
We’ll be leaving the Cenotaph car park on McVilly Drive at 10am, so get there 10 minutes beforehand, and we’ll aim to return at about 12 noon.
This is a great ride for people wanting to build their riding confidence or just wanting a relaxed ride in great company.
