Hobart’s E-bike Expo is back bigger and better

The Hobart E-bike Expo is back at the Regatta Grounds on Sunday 24 November, so if you’ve been umming and ahhing about whether to get an electric bicycle, here’s your chance to try them all out in one hit.

We’ve got a few more shops and manufacturers helping us out this year to bring you a wide range of bikes to test ride.

Past stallholders Teros, Ride Bellerive, Roll Cycles, JJ Bikes, Pedaltec and Electric Horseman are all back and will be joined by Ken Self Cycles and Hobart Bike Hire. We also have interstate manufacturers and dealers helping out local shops with extra stock.

The grassy slopes of the Regatta Grounds are a great place to try out the bikes for people who are not confident riders or who haven’t been on a bike in a few years.

A feature of the Expo is being able to test ride bikes one after the other, giving you a better opportunity to compare the comfort and power of different styles and models. You can put in an order for a bike on the day or buy on the spot if there is enough stock.

There will be mountain bikes, high power bicycles (need to be ridden off-road or registered), commuter bikes, touring bikes, step-throughs and tricycles.

And if it’s been a while since you looked at e-bikes you’ll be pleased to see the starting price has come down over the years, depending on how much power and battery life you are after.

If you are thinking of getting an e-bike so you can sell the second car in your family, then a good quality e-bike can be bought for not much more than the annual cost of a car’s registration, insurance and servicing and repairs.

Running an e-bike is also cost effective with the charge for a battery lasting 50–80 km costing about 10–15 cents.

The free E-bike Expo is at the Regatta Grounds, McVilly Drive, Hobart between 10 am and 2 pm.

This year’s expo has been sponsored by the Tasmanian Government’s Climate Change Office, which will have a stall on the day.

There will also be a coffee provider and a Show’n’tell session where experienced riders bring along their e-bikes and answer questions from people wanting to get advice straight from the horse’s mouth.  If you are an e-bike rider and would like to take part in the Show’n’tell send us an email.
