There will be some minor disruption for riders city-bound on Royal Parade later this month.
Contractors for Greater Western Water will be undertaking ground investigation works at several locations in the service lane between Carlton Football Ground and Tin Alley at Melbourne University.
The activities will be outside of peak periods, being scheduled between 9.30am and 3.30pm, but localised closures will occur Monday to Friday.
The disruption will be present from Monday 20 March and will be underway for about two weeks, starting near Princes Park and moving towards the city.
Traffic management and detours will be in place to help vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists move safely around the area.
There will be will machinery and vehicles present.
Note that these works are a prelude to a much more impactful project to install a new water main along Royal Parade between Princes Park and Genetics Lane.
The existing water main has been servicing the Parkville community since 1889 and is reaching the end of its service life.
Construction of the new main is scheduled to start in April 2023 and be completed by September 2023.
The new water main will be underneath the parking and bike lanes along the service lane.
Planning for the impacts of these works is underway and riders will be provided with full details closer to the start date.
