Work underway on new Werribee regional Park

Work is beginning on the development of a massive new 340-hectare regional park in Wyndham Vale and Tarniet, which includes extensive paths for bike riding and walking.

Now mostly agricultural land, the new park in Melbourne's west crosses both Wadawurrung Country and Bunurong Country. It will be restored to natural values and sustainably managed to protect and enhance the natural and cultural landscape for years to come.

Bike trails have long been planned along the Werribee River. Some are already built, and the new park will connect some of the gaps.

Plans include an accessible network of walking tracks and shared paths with wayfinding and interpretive signage. They will connect places of interest, provide opportunities for discovery, and link with future surrounding paths.

Bike and pedestrian bridges over the river will connect communities and allow visitors to get closer to the river.

Under the Parks Victoria Strategic Directions Plan, the park will be connected to the Werribee River Shared Trail, bringing people from Melton, Werribee South tourism precinct, Werribee town centre and station, the Federation Trail and trail connections being built in emerging communities.

Significant areas of the park will be revegetated with native vegetation and the Werribee River will be protected and enhanced.

Two visitor areas will be connected by the shared trails.
