Dandenong gets vital creek trail connection

The Dandenong Creek Trail will gain a missing link, a new underpass and local connections as part of a major level crossing removal project in Dandenong.

The Webster Street level crossing is being closed off and traffic will be diverted to a Dandenong CBD bypass road under the rail lines.

The Level Crossings Project will construct a section of the Dandenong Creek Trail beside the former Webster (now Bryant) Street and through Woodcock Reserve to the Princes Highway, and an underpass at the rail line.

The preliminary design concepts are on exhibition now. Have your say.

The new road and underpass will reduce traffic through the CBD and the residential precinct on Webster Street by directing it through an industrial zone.

Bike riders will no longer need to share the former Webster Street with 10,000 cars a day and the connection of the creek trail to the Princes Highway is a great addition to the state's bike network.

Bike and pedestrian connections from the trail into the CBD and station precinct will be essential. Other local links, including to the continuation of the Dandenong Creek Trail on the other side of the highway, not mentioned at this stage of the project, will need full consideration.

As the designs are refined the project will also be submitted for planning approval. Designs will be completed next year and construction is planned from 2025 to 2028.

There are two surveys to provide feedback and a drop-pin map to add comments.

Feedback is open until 10 December 2023.
