Ironman Tasmania closes Intercity Cycleway

Ironman Tasmania is back in Hobart on Sunday 4 February and will mean the closure of the Intercity Cycleway from Bay Street in New Town through to the waterfront, the same section as last year.

Ironman Tasmania had tried to improve the situation for bike riders with a plan to instead close the cycleway at the Botanical Gardens, but permission for this was pulled at the last minute.

If you are heading in and out of the city you’ll need to use Campbell and Argyle streets, or other New Town streets, and if you are are coming on and off the Tasman Bridge you'll have to cross one lane of the highway to get to the gravel track that runs around the Queens Domain (crossing pictured).

Other closures include the Bowen Bridge and some waterfront paths and streets. For a list of closures and map visit https://www.ironman.com/im703-tasmania-local-access

Launceston pool parking on camera

Bike theft is a constant problem, so it's great to see the City of Launceston Leisure and Aquatic Centre put in CCTV around its bike parking area.

We'd love to see genuine, secure bike parking at locations, where people leave their bikes for a significant amount of time, across the state.

Secure cages, lockers and electronic docks are all options for bike parking and provide an extra layer of security on top of a good-quality bike lock.

Meadowbank day out for female MTB riders

The Girls Day Out mountain biking event has joined forces with the Shredding Betties bike club to stage this year's ride at Meadowbank Wines on Saturday 23 March.

The day is all about female riders of all ages (not just girls) being supported to improve their MTB riding and find their people.

It starts with a yoga session to get you limbered up for a day on the trails, and includes shuttle transfers across the property, a short lunch break, wine and snacks.

Tickets are $85–101, with discounts available for Shredding Betties members https://www.thegirlsdayout.com.au/ An additional shuttle service is available for northern riders.
