Docklands bike route update

Bike riders will see several small realignments to the Foostcray Road and Moonee Ponds Creek bike routes next week, and there is a big change on the horizon.

The exciting news is the near completion of the superstructure of the cable-stay bridge, which has taken its final, powerful form and shimmery green colour.

The colour, which will be a feature of bike infrastructure being installed by the West Gate Tunnel Project, will surely entice riders from across town to the trail.

The bridge spans Footscray Road and will transport riders from the soon-to-be-constructed Footscray Veloway and the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, into Docklands.

Construction has moved rapidly and the bridge structure, now partly suspended by cables and ground supports, will become freestanding. This means the traffic lanes on Footscray Road will soon be reopened.

It also means the minor bike route detour along St Mangos Lane will revert to the usual route along Footscray Road.

There will also be small changes to the alignment of the crossing at Costco and the creek and Pearl River Road will again be closed to traffic.

As works continue in the area, any required closures will be at night. Riders may be held up for short periods during the day to allow for crane swing.

Riders along the creek should note than the creek path will be diverted through the fence into the E-gate area for a short distance between Dynon and Footscray Roads, just where the new overhead road ramp is under construction.
