Rathdowne St bike lane closes for night works

The Victoria Street Water Main Renewal project is moving to the corner of Rathdowne and Queensberry streets, closing Rathdowne Street to all southbound traffic at night, including bike lanes.

The closures will be overnight between 8pm and 6am, starting Sunday 21 April and lasting until the following Thursday 25 April.

Bike riders will be detoured west-bound onto Queensberry Street, then southbound onto Lygon Street to reconnect to Victoria Street, following existing bike lanes on Queensberry Street and Lygon Street.

Traffic management teams and signs will be in place during working hours to direct riders to the detour.

The night works, which involve the installation of a connection piece between two existing water mains, will be at the intersection of Rathdowne and Queensberry streets in Carlton.

During construction hours, a short section of the bike lane on Rathdowne Street through and after the Queensberry Street intersection will be closed.

Outside of construction hours the bike lane on Rathdowne Street will be open, with steel plates covering the excavations.
