Claremont park and ride goes to tender

The Tasmanian Government is about to put construction of the Claremont park and ride to tender, with a start date in the second half of this year.

The new facility includes a prominent bike parking shed for 57 bicycles, between the two bus stops, and sits next to the Intercity Cycleway.

The government has not announced what security system it's going to implement to ensure safe bike parking.

Swapping seats in Road Safety Week

Bicycle Network is contributing to National Road Safety Week with a Swapping Seats activity on Saturday 11 May, 12-4pm, at York Park in Launceston.

Helped by our friends at the Tamar Bicycle Users Group, Hawthorn Football Club and Road Safety Advisory Council we’ll give football fans the chance to sit in a truck driver's seat to understand where blind spots are.

And Launceston Council has released its road crash data for the year to 30 April, showing it's on track for a five-year low. Traffic Engineer, Nigel Coates, said it was too soon to attribute the drop to the 40km speed limits introduced late last year, but the impact of lower speeds would be analysed over the long term.

Mersey Bridge path shut for a few nights

The Tasmanian Government is starting a six-week project to realign the Mersey River Bridge in Devonport on Monday 13 May, but the shared path will remain open during the day.

The path will be shut for a few nights in the first week of June – stay tuned to our Facebook page for exact dates.

Remaining Mac Pt path to close

TasWater is set to close the remaining section of unsealed bicycle path and road through Macquarie Point from 13 May to enable the move of its sewerage plant to Selfs Point.

The bicycle path runs from the Regatta Grounds around the Cenotaph to the road onto Davey Street where it meets the Brooker Avenue.

The path is likely to be closed for a few years, so riders will have to use the Davey Street shared path to get to and from the Intercity Cycleway: https://yoursay.taswater.com.au/selfs-point-sewage-treatment-plant-expansion-project/macquarie-point-sewage-pump-station
