Feedback sought on Newport level crossings

Further feedback is being sought on the solutions to level crossings closures and removals in Newport.

The Maddox Road level crossing will be replaced by two rail bridges over the road, while the crossing 500 metres away at Champion Road will be closed permanently.

Bike and pedestrian travellers on Champion Road will get their own new bridge over the rail line to connect the bike network on both sides of the tracks.

Motor traffic on Champion Road will be linked through to Maddox Street with a new extension of Akuna Drive.

As part of the project, the Level Crossing Removal Project will also extend the existing shared path on Market Street from Newport Station along Railway Avenue, at least as far as Maddox Road.

Consultation closes on Sunday 9 June.
