The Moonee Ponds Creek Trail through West Melbourne has reverted back to its original alignment along the east bank.
Riders no longer have to traverse the pontoons to the west side and cross Dynon Road at the temporary traffic signals, but can continue on the original trail and use the underpass at Dynon adjacent to the creek, on the city side.
The temporary crossing of Dynon Road on the west side of the creek is now closed.
This means that there are no road crossings at this location as the crossings of the CityLink on ramps have also been closed with the opening of the interim loop around the rear of the CityLink structures.
The pontoon south of Dynon Road, will remain open for the time being to connect riders who are using the Dynon Road trail to Footscray with the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.
The new Dynon Road bike bridge across the creek will soon be connected over to the Dynon road loop, enabling the southern pontoon to be also closed.
This will be connected to another new Dynon Road bridge, which will take riders across the railway corridor close to North Melbourne station, providing riders along the creek and on the Dynon Road trail with a connection into West Melbourne, the CBD and Docklands.
More disruptions
The West Gate Tunnel Project is pressing on, including the erection of the veloway bike route from Footscray, and there will be both short- and long-term closures of Dynon Road, Moonee Ponds Creek Trail, and also Whitehall Street cycle paths.
There will soon be a closure of the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail between Dynon Road and Footscray Road from 8pm Tuesday 8 June, to 5am Wednesday 10 July and a closure of the Dynon Road trail between Lloyd Street and CityLink from 8pm Tuesday 6 August to 5am Wednesday 14 August. Details of these detours will be provided closer to the event.
Meanwhile, the Footscray Road trail will remain closed and diverted to Dynon Road until about 16 June 2024. There will be further closures during August, September and October.
