Yarra Ranges Shire could have a fully planned network of paths and trails across the expanse of territory just to Melbourne’s east if a new proposal comes to fruition.
To get people more active, Yarra Ranges Council is aiming to establish and maintain a high-quality network of paths and trails for use by residents and visitors.
The network will get people from A to B within their neighbourhood, provide opportunities for recreation, and encourage people to reconnect with nature.
The draft 10-year plan is out until 5 August for consultation.

The council is keen to discover whether it has missed any opportunities to fill in missing connections across the ranges. It will prioritise development against the council’s established criteria.
It has provided a map for comments and suggestions.
Yarra Ranges has some major trail and path facilities and several more are under construction.
Thirteen other trails are identified for upgrades, and another 31 potential new paths and missing links are outlined.
The draft will be finalised later this year and, after another round of consultation, will be adopted early in 2025.
