Bike riders who will connect to the new Eastern Busway service to the city from Doncaster will benefit from new bike routes and bike parking being delivered as part of the rebuilding of the Doncaster Park and Ride.
The existing Park and Ride at Doncaster is making way for upgrades to the Eastern Freeway as part of the North East Link Project.
It will be rebuilt in the same precinct as a more capacious and efficient facility to better the serve the large numbers of passengers expected to be using the new busway being built along the Eastern Freeway, which will open in 2028.
Another new Park and Ride has been built at Bulleen so that users of the existing bus services can utilise a parking facility while the Doncaster upgrade is underway.
The plans have gone on exhibition prior to planning approval prior teamwork starting next year: https://engage.vic.gov.au/doncaster-park-and-ride-upgrade
You can provide feedback while the plan is on exhibition from Wednesday 4 September until 5pm Tuesday 24 September.
There will be new bike connections to the facility from Koonung Creek Trail, Doncaster Road and local streets.
There will be a secure Parkiteer bike park for 25-plus bikes, plus an extra 25-plus bicycle hoops.
Planners are seeking feedback on how people will use the upgraded park and ride, including the new walking and cycling connections, car park, platform areas and services for passengers. They are also seeking comments on the overall look and feel of the upgrade including the trees, plants, forecourt, car park and passenger services buildings, noise wall and green walls.
The new facility promises:
• New walking and cycling connections and bicycle parking
• A new Drop and Go zone
• Improved services for passengers including ticket office and public toilets
• An express connection to the Eastern Busway under Doncaster Road
• Three new bus platforms
• Multi-level parking for 435 cars, with lifts, stairs and green walls for climbing plants
• A new 530m2 landscaped forecourt.
The existing car park at Doncaster Park and Ride will need to close from early 2025. Bus services will continue to operate during construction using new and upgraded bus stops nearby.
