Bicycle Network is among almost 40 Streets People Love campaign members seeking to create better neighbourhoods through the upcoming 2024 local council elections, and numbers are growing.
Some local seats are hotly contested, although 50 candidates across the state have been elected unopposed due to lack of nominations.
Candidate nominations have closed, and ballot packs will be mailed to voters in all electorates from Monday 7 October.
So far, the Streets People Love campaign has given scorecards to candidates in 30 local government areas. More campaign members are needed to ensure candidates across the state are surveyed.
The campaign is being run by a collection of community organisations calling on nominees to support the creation of safer, more pleasant neighbourhoods that encourage people to walk and ride.
The newest SPL campaign members include the Public Transport Users Association, Bike Geelong and Surf Coast Energy Group. More volunteers are needed across the state.
The Streets People Love website contains resources to help people run campaigns in their local government areas including a survey, social media resources, media release templates.
Voting in the 2024 Victorian Council elections is by post only and closes at 6pm on Friday 25 October. Postal votes must be received by 12pm on Friday 1 November.

More campaign members are sought in local government areas across the state. Here's what you can do:
- Look up your local council area to see whether scorecards have been given to candidates. If they have not been scored, use the link on the website to email your local candidates the survey. You can find candidates emails at the VEC website
- If your local council area does have a scorecard then share it with your neighbours, friends, school and local communities.
