New groups join Streets People Love council election campaign

The Disability Resource Centre and Sydney Road Accessible Tram Stops Campaign have joined bike riding, walking and active transport groups involved in the Streets People Love 2024 council election campaign.

The campaign, which aims to give scorecards to all 2211 candidates across 78 local government areas holding elections this October, has uploaded responses from 55 areas and more than 460 candidates to the Streets People Love website.

Streets People Love is being run by a collection of community organisations calling on nominees to support the creation of safer, more pleasant neighbourhoods that encourage people to walk and ride.

Voting will be by post only and ballots were mailed to all Victorians from Monday 7 October. Voting closes at 6pm on Friday 25 October. Results will be announced on Friday 15 November

The Streets People Love website contains resources to help people run campaigns in their local government areas including a survey, social media resources, media release templates.

The website is receiving an average of 500 visits per day and more than 1000 people looked at the campaign's Merri-bek Council page last week. Other areas gaining strong support include Boroondara, Moonee Valley, City of Melbourne, Darebin, Port Phillip, Yarra and Maribyrnong.

Please help the campaign to spread more widely by scoring candidates in your local area and sharing the website with your schools, sporting and community clubs and on social media.
