The West Gate Tunnel Project (WGTP) is hosting a free community event to celebrate the opening of the Kororoit Creek Trail on Saturday.
The trail is part of the missing link through to the Federation Trail in Laverton North and boasts extra-wide sections, revegetation and landscaping.
Until now, the lower Kororoit Creek Trail finished at the GJ Hosken Reserve in Altona North. The new section crosses from the east to the west side of the creek over a historic bluestone bridge that one hosted the old Geelong Road.
The WGTP has also reopened the section of the Federation Trail between Millers Road and Fogarty Avenue.
Saturday's event will begin at 10am and a guided ride and walk along the trail will follow.
There will be a free bike-check station, plus a free sausage sizzle, coffee and doughnuts.
The celebrations will take place from 10am-12.30pm on Saturday 9 November, at the GJ Hosken Reserve, Blackshaws Road, Altona North.
Parking is limited and participants are encouraged to walk or ride to the event.
