Our new Board members

Bicycle Network has welcomed four new directors to its Board. The new members bring with them experience from a diverse range of industries and a commitment to getting more people riding bikes more often. 

Simon Woods and Karien Dekker were elected to the Board. Cherie Smith and Kathryn Whalley were co-opted to for their professional experience and to ensure gender balance on the Board. 

Simon Woods has a background in leadership and governance in the healthcare sector and an awareness of the impact of medical conditions such as obesity, diabetes and heart disease, which can be combated by bike riding. He aims to work towards addressing the safety barriers that prevent people riding bikes. 

Karien Dekker brings leadership experience in the private, public and not-for-profit sector and has bicycle consultancy experience in the Netherlands. Her focus is on codesigning inclusive housing and social infrastructure that includes public transport and public space such as bike paths.

Cherie Smith is a senior fundraising professional with leadership, community engagement and grant application experience.  She aims to ensure women and people from diverse backgrounds are given the opportunity to participate in bike riding. 

Kathryn Whalley has a background in finance and fundraising experience for community and not-for-profit organisations. Her goals are to see improved bike riding conditions, increased facilities and fairer legislation for bike riders.
