Bike trail gets green light in Sydney’s West

An improved pedestrian path and bike path along Parramatta’s Duck River in NSW is set to open in three stages between 2026 and 2028.

The Duck River Nature Trail will cover a total of 4.5km and start at Silverwater Park and follow the natural green corridor from Parramatta River to the shared path that follows the M4 Motorway.

Once finished, the trail is expected to connect to the Parramatta River foreshore path and be used by up to 2000 people daily.

The first stage of work includes improving access to Silverwater Park along the river and includes separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists. A dedicated bike path is also planned under Silverwater Bridge, as is bike parking, seating, lighting, a fountain, and tree planting.

The second stage will focus on safety and amenity improvement for pedestrians and bikes on the streets around Silverwater, where the foreshore is inaccessible.

The third stage includes a new bridge over Duck Creek and foreshore paths on both sides of the river.

This $27 million project is funded by City of Parramatta, NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants, and Get Active NSW program.
