New causeways are being planned on the Tasman Highway to upgrade the Midway Point and Sorell causeways and include shared paths on the inland side.
Fly-through videos and site plans are available online and show where the paths sit and how they will connect to existing and planned paths.
The popular fishing spot on the Midway Point causeway path will remain and a new path will be built on the other side to improve comfort for all users.
The plans include a new shared path alongside the highway on the Hobart side of the causeways to link to the shared path, which was built at the same time as the airport overpass.
The Midway Point to Sorell causeways will be linked by an existing wide footpath, which runs along Fenton Street and Third Avenue.
The new paths will make riding to work and school possible for people living in Sorell and Midway Point as only 10km separates Sorell from the airport and Cambridge industrial precinct.
The causeway upgrade is part of the Tasmanian government’s South East Traffic Solution project, which has delivered the Hobart Airport interchange and widened the Tasman Highway through Midway Point and the Sorell bypass to the Arthur Highway.
Public consultation is open on the paths and their connections until 11 March.
An interactive map is online for comments and in-person sessions will be held at:
- Midway Point Hall, 32 Hoffman Street, Midway Point
Thursday 27 February, 2pm-6pm - South East Stadium, 13 Montagu Street, Sorell
Saturday 1 March, 9am-1pm
