Expanded Mogo Trails network ready for riders

NSW mountain bikers will welcome the news that the full 125km Mogo Trails network will be ready to ride from Saturday 10 May.

The network began as a single 10km loop around Deep Creek Dam, with an extension on the eastern side of the network that was unveiled in August 2024.

It has now expanded to 125km of green to double black-rated trails, weaving through the bush of Mogo and back of Batehaven, stretching out to Mt Wandera in the west.

Five new trails and a skills park have been added to the eastern side of Mogo Trails, including a black and double black jumpline.

A 28km blue-rated trail called Burnaaga (meaning 'goanna' in Dhurga language, named by local Elders) is also opening on the western side. The one-way trail from the top of Mt Wandera is a remote, untamed route, built for fit and experienced riders keen to tackle challenging terrain. Riders must carry water, food, basic first aid and be prepared to ride for 1.5–3.5 hours.

The starting point is reached by four-wheel drive and a shuttle service will be announced soon; up-to-the-minute information will be available on the Mogo Trails website.

New amenities and a bike wash station at Mogo Oval are also in the works, as well as a new pathway to a pump track.

The Mogo Trails network was funded by a $5 million grant from the NSW and Australian governments' Bushfire Local Economic Recovery Fund and a $3 million grant from the NSW Government's Growing Local Economies Fund.

Excitement over the network was only increasing, said Eurobodalla Shire Council Mayor Mathew Hatcher.

"Since opening part of the network last August, we've seen an influx of riders keen to explore the trails," he said. "Over the Easter holidays it felt like every second car had bike racks.

"As we head into the cooler months, the mountain bike trails at Mogo as well as Narooma will continue drawing visitors, keeping them active outdoors and supporting our local businesses."

A community event is planned in July as part of a grand opening celebration, with details to come.
