Skeleton Creek Trail extended
The trail along the Skeleton Creek at Sanctuary Lakes in Melbourne’s south-west has been completed.

A new 3-kilometre concrete path extends from the Bay Trail West bridge over Skeleton Creek to the Hobsons Bay Council municipal boundary to the north at Winter Way, Point Cook, where it connects to a previously built section of the trail.

The new section replaces an old gravel and dirt track that was precariously narrow in some sections and impassable in the wet.

The new path now enables riders to ride from the coast as far as the Princes Highway. There is also a trail much of the way on the other side of the creek.

The trail is well connected to the adjoining residential areas and is proving popular with locals now that they can make the route part of a circuit.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said the project aligned with the council’s Active Transport Strategy and would enhance Sanctuary Lakes’ shared path network.

“This important project fills a vital missing link in Sanctuary Lakes’ shared path network, connecting with existing shared user paths near Skeleton Creek and the Hobsons Bay municipal boundary,” she said.

Wyndham City’s Cheetham Ward Councillor, Susan McIntyre, who also advocated for these works alongside the Sanctuary Lakes community, added: “It’s a fantastic step forward for local active transport, connecting more people to nature, to their neighbourhoods and to each other.”
