Auburn crossing works get underway
Two years after it was announced, work will get underway this month on the new raised crossing of Auburn Road in Hawthorn near the rail bridge.

This crossing, initially a signalised crossing for pedestrians, will later also be the location for a crossing for the future Box Hill to Hawthorn Rail Trail, a key route on Melbourne’s slowly developing strategic cycling corridor network.

Although the state government has completed a feasibility study for the trail, there has been no word yet on when it might be scheduled or what priority it might have in relation to other major projects.

A section through Surry Hills and Mont Albert has already been constructed as part of a Level Crossing Removal Project.

The works, which will be underway until late this year, will be mostly at night.

Night works will take place between 10pm and 6am, Sunday to Thursday. Any works scheduled during the day will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday.

There will be a lane closure on Auburn Road at the work site. Traffic will take turns travelling in either direction along this section of Auburn Road. Traffic management controllers will be on site.

A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place.
