Construction begins on King Street missing link
Sydney riders will soon be able to safely ride between College and King streets following the construction of a new section of cycleway.

More than 200 metres of separated bi-directional cycleway will be built around the north-eastern side of Hyde Park on Prince Albert Road and on the southern end of Macquarie Street.

A new ramp on Macquarie Street will give riders a clear entry point and two signalised intersections will be upgraded, including improved lighting.

The new section will connect to the existing shared path at Queens Square and the King Street cycleway.

It follows the opening of the Oxford Street West cycleway earlier this year and the reinstatement of the College Street cycleway.

The design and construction of the King to College streets cycleway are funded by the state government's Get Active NSW program.

Lord Mayor of Sydney Clover Moore AO said: "Since we started making riding more attractive in Sydney, we've seen a huge increase in people choosing a cheaper and healthier way to get around."

She highlighted that counts from March 2025 showed a 7% increase on the number of trips in the City of Sydney from March 2024.

"We're building a well-planned network of cycleways that help people get around by bike, offering another healthy, convenient and low-cost travel choice."
