The Queensland Government will invest $3.5 million in upgrading four regional rail trails across the state.
Funded through the Department of Transport and Main Roads' Rail Trail Program, the investment will upgrade the Pioneer Valley Rail Trail ($75,000), Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail ($1.6 million), Bundaberg to Gin Gin Trail ($147,000) and Brisbane Valley Rail Trail ($1.6 million).
Upgrades will be aimed at improving safety, accessibility and user experience.
The funding supports Queensland's Destination 2045 strategy, focused on growing the state's ecotourism potential and driving regional development.
Minister for Transport and Main Roads, Brent Mickelberg, said: "Cycling tourism is growing rapidly, and rail trails play a vital role in supporting the economies of regional towns.
"This investment helps revitalise disused infrastructure, connect people with nature, and create new opportunities for communities to grow and prosper."
Member for Callide, Brynson Head, added: "This is a great investment to boost our region.
"The rail trails are attracting interest from far and wide, bringing visitors to the area and creating new ecotourism opportunities.
"Importantly, these trails showcase what our communities have to offer – strong community spirit, thriving agriculture, fresh produce, welcoming local pubs and cafes, and some of the best views in Queensland."
